expert analysis & newsletter briefs

Manitok Energy Inc.

"We are enamored with Manitok Energy Inc. The company's share price suffered because it satiated the market with shares after doing a reasonably large-size issue at $0.80/share. That enabled the company to make a big acquisition that will leave it with up to 300 drilling locations with IRRs in excess of 50% at today's oil prices in both its Basal Quartz and Lithic Glauc zones. . .Manitok is a smaller company; it's trading at CA$0.60/share on about 85 million (85M) shares. It is an under-CA$50M company with just shy of CA$70M of debt, so its enterprise value (EV) is about CA$120M. Yet it's trading at less than 4x EV:EBITDA at today's oil price, and at about 2x EV:EBITDA assuming $65/bbl oil—about the global average cost of production—with years of growth ahead. . .we added more Manitok with the new issue." (8/4/15) - The Energy Report Interview with Randall Abramson

Royal Dutch Shell Plc

"Compared to Royal Dutch Shell Plc's Q2/14, Q2/15 benefited from strong downstream results, reflecting improved operating performance and higher refining margins, and improved intermediates market conditions in chemicals. . . adjusted Q2/15 earnings were $3.8B, or $1.22/ADS, versus $1.07 consensus estimate, down 37% year over year but up 17% sequentially. Compared to Q2/14, strong downstream results partially offset the decline in upstream, which is attributable to the decline in oil and gas prices." (8/3/15) - Fadel Gheit, Oppenheimer & Co.

Renewable Energy Group, Inc.

"Renewable Energy Group Inc. agreed to acquire the assets of Imperium Renewables Inc. for ~$0.40/gal, where we see the primary value in Imperium's deep water port and its ship to rail trans-load capability. The 100 Mgal biodiesel plant may have had a spotty history, but is still EPA RIN certified and provides a site for Renewable Energy Group to more economically send biodiesel into West Coast markets following necessary plant upgrades. . .on the surface ~$0.40/gal seems fair, in our view, but a closer look suggests it may be much better." (8/3/15) - Craig Irwin, ROTH Capital Partners

Fission Uranium Corp.

"I am a shareholder of Fission Uranium Corp. and believe the merger with Denison Mines Corp. could benefit the entire Athabasca Basin. Mergers and acquisitions are the name of the game in uranium. . .the combined larger entities could attract strategic and institutional investors, which could open the capital markets to improved exploration and development budgets. In this bear market companies need to consolidate in order to cut costs and attract major institutional interest. Denison with Fission will have the best portfolio of high-grade advanced uranium assets in the Basin plus free cash flow from Denison's toll-milling agreements and management fees with Uranium Participation Corp." (8/3/15) - Jeb Handwerger, Gold Stock Trades
